KATHLEEN GALLAGHER
Kathleen is Executive Director of "5 Lakes Institute", a non-profit that works to improve the Great Lakes region’s technological and entrepreneurial climate. She’s a columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and hosts Midwest Moxie, a radio show/podcast that features interviews with Midwest company founders.
Kathleen is Executive in Residence for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Investment Certificate Management Program and serves on the StartingBlock Madison and Midwest Research University Network (MRUN) boards of directors.
Previously the technology and investments reporter at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Kathleen won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting for co-authoring a series about how Wisconsin doctors for the first time in history sequenced all of the genes of a young boy to diagnose and cure his mysterious disease. Kathleen and her co-author wrote a book based on the series called "One in a Billion: The Story of Nic Volker and the Dawn of Genomic Medicine."
Before joining the Journal Sentinel, Kathleen was a Communications Consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and taught business writing at the American Bankers Association. She has an undergraduate degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a graduate degree in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
