John Powell Mackey

John Powell Mackey is an American businessman and author, best known as co-founder and longtime CEO of Whole Foods Market from 1980 to 2022. A pioneer of natural and organic retail, he expanded the chain to over 500 stores and championed the Conscious Capitalism movement. He co-authored books including Conscious Capitalism, Conscious Leadership, The Whole Foods Diet, and The Whole Foods Cookbook. Mackey advocates free-market principles, humane animal treatment, and plant-based diets, and now leads health venture Love.Life.
