About the Club

The Economic Club of Sheboygan was founded in 1963 by James Raffel, Konrad Testwuide and Robert Sawvell, three young entrepreneurs, who felt the need for a local forum to host national speakers and exchange views on current economic issues. It has grown to its current membership of more than 180 active members.

The Club is a private organization dedicated to improving the awareness and knowledge of its members on current economic and social questions. Membership is limited, and new members are nominated by a current member. The Executive Committee reviews all nominees and votes on membership to the club annually. These nominees may be very acceptable, but just not a member that year.

Club members meet four times a year to host nationally renowned guest speakers and discuss timely economic, social and business issues. Over the years, speakers have included two Presidents of the United States, United States Senators, Congressmen, Cabinet members, Nobel Prize winners, Federal Reserve Bank officials and noted economists.

Our meetings consist of a social/networking hour when the members can meet the speaker. This is followed by a dinner and a presentation by the guest speaker. The evening concludes with an opportunity for members to ask questions during an informative discussion with the speaker.
